With all the attention to the Biden-Trump debate and the French election where Marine Le Pen’s National Rally is leading in the first round, you could be forgiven for forgetting that there also is an election in another G7 country, a small island off the French coast. But it would be a mistake to ignore it. While the French election may yield a disruptive “cohabitation” (for now), the UK general election, despite its all-but-certain outcome, has the potential to be truly transformative. In that, it mirrors the Mexican election last month that, despite its predictable outcome, caught markets off guard with its size.
